spark plugs, fuel filters, air filters, fuel injectors, oxygen sensors, catilic converters all need to be in good condition.
Clean your fuel injection system, you can also use a fuel conditioner and fuel additive.
A check engine light that is on will automatically fail so get this fixed first.
